How a Ridgeway lesson works

Every lesson is built the same way, so your attention goes to the statistics, not to finding your place. Here are the six parts, in the order you meet them.

The lesson rail keeps your place

Beside every lesson sits the module's rail: each lesson with a mark that's hollow, half full or filled. You never wonder what's left this week.

  • Progress saved after every section
  • Folds into one line on your phone
  • The module quiz waits at the bottom

Five callouts, always the same

A blue definition, a green worked example, a yellow exam tip, a red common mistake and a slate note to remember. After a lesson or two, you read a page by its boxes.

Reviewing before a quiz? Skim the yellow and red boxes in each lesson. That's most of what quizzes test.

Practice that explains itself

Every lesson ends with two to four questions. Check one and you see why the right answer is right and why the tempting one is wrong, before you move on.

Try it: this one is from lesson 2.3.

From lesson 2.3In a box plot, what does the box itself span?
Show the answer

C. The box runs from Q1 to Q3, the middle half of the data; the line inside it is the median. The whiskers reach toward the smallest and largest values, which is why A tempts people.

Flashcards for every term

Each lesson closes with a short deck. Say the meaning out loud, then turn the card. It takes two minutes and it's the part people tell us they keep doing after the course.

Live sessions, if you want them

Cohort learners meet on Tuesdays for an hour of worked problems and questions, and drop into office hours on Thursdays. Both are recorded and posted within two hours.

A capstone on your own question

In week 6 you answer one question with data you choose, in two pages. Cohort learners get written feedback from an instructor within a week.

  • Any data set: work, hobby or one of ours
  • A template that walks you through it

Small things that add up

  • Works from the keyboard

Every question, card and menu, with a visible focus ring.

  • Light or dark

Follows your device, or pick one. The highlighter softens at night.

  • Worksheets to keep

Every exercise as a spreadsheet you can download and reuse.

  • Videos with transcripts

Captions on every video, and the full text under it.

  • A lesson on your phone

The rail folds into one line; the reading column fills the screen.

  • A certificate that prints

One landscape page, without the site around it, with a link anyone can verify.

Lesson 1.4 uses every piece on this page. It's free and takes about 18 minutes.
